Opening of the temporary exhibition “zROZUMieć papier” (“Understanding Paper”) by Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, under the honorary patronage of the SPP

The Museum of Papermaking and the Association of Polish Papermakers, which has taken honorary patronage of the event, kindly invite you to the opening of this year’s first temporary exhibition entitled “Understanding Paper” by Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz. The exhibition will be presented at the Paper Art Gallery, and its grand opening will take place on January 16 (Friday) at 5:00 p.m. Admission to the opening is free. Refreshments will be provided for guests.

The exhibition will feature spatial objects made of corrugated cardboard, works made of tobacco tissue, and works created using the handmade paper technique. The exhibition will be accompanied by an educational program, enabling participants to actively explore the possibilities and significance of paper in contemporary art.

The first part of the program consists of art workshops scheduled immediately after the opening, during which participants will decorate fascinators – elegant, fanciful headpieces that serve as an alternative to hats. The workshops will be led by the exhibition’s author, Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz. The number of places in the workshops is limited. Registration is available by calling 74 862 74 26. A surprise is planned for participants.

Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz – artist, designer; graduate of the Institute of Papermaking and Printing at the Łódź University of Technology. In 2017, she obtained her PhD in design arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. In her work, she uses paper as a medium: handmade paper, unbleached paper, waxed paper, tissue paper, tobacco tissue, cardboard, and corrugated cardboard. In her hands, every paper product and semi-finished product generates new creative qualities.

PAPER – light, thin, easy to destroy, and it is through paper that thoughts leave our minds and become reality, which is why paper only begins to exist when it enters into a relationship with humans. To understand paper is to see it as more than just a fibrous structure; it is to invite it to collaborate. And although it is fragile, easy to tear, burn, or get wet, it is precisely in paper that we preserve our most important values. It is always patient and ready to cooperate in many fields, including those created by artists. By getting to know a selected type of paper and discovering its potential, I bring out what is most interesting in it, and it is the paper that leads me to create new forms of spatial objects, which are created exclusively through dialogue with the selected type of paper or paper product. Delicate tobacco tissue paper bends softly, inviting light to play with reflections, while the stiffness of corrugated cardboard leads to an expressive geometric structure. (A. Andruszkiewicz)
