Industry conference in Brussels: “Towards a European Bioeconomy”

On November 20, 2025, a conference organized by Cepi in cooperation with Business Bridge Europe was held in Brussels. It was the first edition of an industry event dedicated entirely to the development prospects of the bioeconomy model in Europe. The choice of topic and date for the conference was not accidental, as the European Commission was expected to announce the EU’s bioeconomy strategy in the following days, which is to be a continuation of previous strategies but will place greater emphasis on industrial implementation and market expansion rather than just research and development. The event was attended by representatives of high-level EU institutions (EC, EP) responsible for creating socio-economic policy and defining the legislative environment in strategic areas for business, such as the environment/climate/energy and technological transformation. The conference program facilitated a panel discussion on the special role of Europe, which can become the undisputed global leader in transforming the conventional economic model based on the exploitation of primary raw materials towards the integration of a sustainable circular bioeconomy system. According to some analytical and research sources, the potential of the new model, measured in terms of cash revenue equivalent, is estimated at around €6.6 trillion in 2030. Among the panels that dominated the day-long substantive debate was one entitled “Bioeconomy across sectors: from textiles to bio-based chemicals.” Representatives of national associations affiliated with Cepi and CEOs from across Europe were invited to participate in the discussion. Among the conference participants was M. Jarczyński (CEO of Arctic Paper Group), vice-president of our Association and chair of the SPP Paper Section.
