100 Years of the Franciscans in Duszniki-Zdrój
The year 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the Franciscans’ official establishment in Duszniki-Zdrój.
To celebrate this occasion, we invite you to an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Order of Friars Minor and the Franciscans’ presence in the town. The opening will take place on September 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the museum.
The origins of this story date back to the 1920s. In 1925, the order purchased a plot of land in the town’s spa district and began construction of a monastery based on a design by architect Alfred Trumpke. On September 28, 1926, the church and monastery were consecrated, and the Franciscans officially began their ministry in Duszniki-Zdrój.
The following decades brought growth in pastoral activities and the establishment of a parish, but also difficult events related to the communist authorities’ seizure of the monastery in 1954. The struggle to reclaim it lasted nearly 40 years and ended with the order’s final takeover of the property in 1993.
The exhibition also tells the story of St. Francis of Assisi, the history of the Franciscans in the Kłodzko region, and the architecture of the Church of St. Francis and St. Leonard in Duszniki. The exhibition is enriched by historical views and archival photographs, as well as artifacts related to the history of the Franciscans in Duszniki.
