SPP representatives’ views in the debate at the First Congress of Polish Industry
On June 23, 2026, at the PAP headquarters in Warsaw, at the initiative of the Chamber of Industrial Energy and Energy Consumers (IEPiOE), the first edition of the Polish Industry Congress debate was held. The primary goal of the event was to publicly present constructive proposals—developed by energy-intensive industrial sectors—regarding legislative changes that could lead to a reduction in the cost of electricity consumed by industrial customers in Poland. As expected, the implementation of the solutions recommended by business leaders could help maintain competitiveness not only within the energy-intensive industries themselves but also across the entire Polish economy, both in Europe and on the global market. Among those who spoke at the opening of the debate was J. Turski (chairman of the program council of the OEEiG Forum of of Associations), who emphasized that industry constitutes a key segment of the national economy, playing a significant role in the creation of gross value added by generating over 20% of Poland’s GDP, and that industrial production is regarded as one of the most important sources of information on the current state of the economy and on the possible direction of changes in the pace of GDP growth. Turski noted, however, that our country currently lacks a single, coherent, and long-term strategy for industry that is tailored to current market realities. At the same time, he mentioned that the actual framework for supporting industry largely stems from EU policies and strategies covering, among other things, decarbonization and new EU guidelines on clean technologies, innovation, and competitiveness. In a brief statement, he also called on politicians and decision-makers to take concrete steps toward systematically supporting the “green” transition, while safeguarding the competitiveness of Polish companies during the transition period. This appeal was heard by Deputy Minister Konrad Wojnarowski, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, who was present in the hall and, during his speech, addressed the key objectives of the Congress organizers. The materials extensively used during the Congress sessions were prepared by Henryk Kalis, President of the Board of IEPiOE, and the highly substantive discussion, featuring panelists, was professionally moderated by legal advisors from the law firm Połowiec i Wspólnicy. Among the distinguished group of six panelists invited by IEPiOE was Ryszard Maciejak (Head of Energy at Mondi Świecie), who shared valuable insights into the specific actions taken by one of Poland’s largest paper companies as it pursues an ambitious decarbonization strategy based on electrification, improving energy efficiency, and increasing the share of renewable energy sources (RES). Before the Congress concluded, there was an opportunity to present a summary and conclusions, as well as for media representatives and other event participants to ask questions of the panelists.
